A look back at Spring 2024: Food, History and Gopchang.

Well, June has come. As May turns to June, I typically find myself ready to call an end to the Spring and a beginning to the summer. For South Korea, with the exception of a chilly late-spring evening the other night, the weather seems to agree.

With that, I’ll take a look back at some of the highlights of the Spring and there were a lot. Moreover, there is a lot of May that I still need to put words to and may yet publish. A long, fun-filled holiday with friends and a long, long walk through the countryside a few weeks later. Also, I indulged in Yong-Yong’s now trend-famous mara jajjang gopchang with a following course of fried rice. That was spectacular and you should go soon, if you’re able.

Gopchang, Korean Intestines Dish

First, more gopchang. It’s wild how much this has grown on me. It really has become one of my favorite unique flavors of Korea. You can read more about it here. If we’re talking underrated Korean food, I think this will long top the list.

A bakery article about Suwon

Many of you know I love bakeries. Pimong is no exception and after driving by a few times, I actually walked over there once or twice, too. They have a wide variety of delicious baked goods. Most true bakeries in Korea are awesome, so you can check out the review of this one here.

Yongin Museum of Gyeonggido

Last but not least, we had quite a cool time at the Gyeonggi-do province museum in Yongin. It was a familiar feel compared to various other museums in Korea but the collection’s specificity was quite cool. Of course, Gyeonggi-do is quite a big and important province of Korea but the degree to which the local story was told here was quite special. Highly recommended for a visit. You can read more about it here.

I’m not sure when I’ll get around to publishing more. These days, I want to get back to publishing once or twice a week. Yet, I’m about to start the summer semester, so my time will be a little more limited. We’ll see how effectively I can manage it all.

Anyway, cheers for stopping by. Hope the season’s transition is treating you well, too.
