On the edge of Cheonan’s Bongmyeongdong, a quiet place, there is a quaint and unassuming bakery next to Seongjeong market. The bakery packs quite a punch, and I’d recommend it to travelers spending some time in Cheonan.

The top offering in my estimation was their egg tart. They looked so good and tasted as good they looked. The textures were perfectly on point.

Further, the prices were quite good. The Bongmyeongdong and Seongjeong area isn’t known for being expensive and it is a bit out of the way for most travelers. However, it’s a don’t miss area of Cheonan for me. The food is quite good.

Bongmyeongdong in particular has an interesting history going back thousands of years. A few millenia back, they say a Pheonix landed on Bongseo mountain to roost. Bongmyeongdong gets it’s name from being the place the Phoenix cried, near the river.

These days, Bongmyeongdong is in the midst of being renewed by Cheonan city efforts. It’s a far cry from the 1980s when it was still a locus for industrial chicken farming. These days, there’s no chicken farms.

It’s a great place to grab an authentic bite and you really can’t beat the prices. In Bongmyeongdong and Seongjeong, maybe you will pay 20-30% less for the same food as a neighborhood away.

The bakery offerings dipped as low as 800 won for a basic sugar twist donut. Yet, even the more extravagant offerings stuck under 4000-5000 won.

They bake everything on sight, so things are quite fresh. That is especially true if you show up earlier in the day. However, the egg tarts are typically gone by midday.

There is a nice selection and nothing is too heavy, which is nice. I’ve had a lot of what they have to offer and I can happily recommend the location. It’s a nice stop before or after lunch at the market.

Bonus, too, is that near the door they have discount items from the day before or so. They mark things between 20-50% off to move it, so you can get an even better deal if that’s what you’re looking for!

The staff is also super friendly and they deserve kudos for that. I’ve never had a bad experience with them, and they are always chipper in their interactions.
